Rise Above Support Services requires certain employees to complete yearly Continued Education Units (CEU's). Below you will find links to videos you can watch in order to complete your CEU's.

 

Upon completion of watching a video, please complete the submission form at the bottom of this page for to receive your CEU credit(s). The submission will go directly to the Management Staff at Rise Above who will track your CEU's.

Ted Talk With Becky

Becky's talk is inspired by her recent diagnosis of being on the Autism spectrum, and how this has affected her life. Becky talks about how autism is diagnosed and the issues of being autistic within mainstream education and specific specialised schools for autism.

What is autism and why is it difficult to get it diagnosed? In her talk Carrie shares her own personal journey towards diagnosis of autism: why it took 35 years, and what are the root causes for such invisible diversity?

Autism: A Quick Trip To My Home Planet | Monique Botha

In her heart-warming talk, Monique will speak about the alienation and isolation experienced by individuals with autism and the stereotypes that plague the diagnosis. Having autism herself, she wants to raise awareness of the challenges faced by individuals who are on the autism spectrum. Monique challenges society’s perception of autism and urges a change in the way society interacts with autism as a whole.

Monique is a postgraduate student in the University of Surrey Psychology department who has worked with children with autism for a number of years as a Social Care worker. Having autism herself, it has given her an interesting perception on what autism is with regards to communities both locally and internationally. Now studying psychology, her dissertation focuses on the stress of being of being different faced by individuals on the autism spectrum and how it affects their lives. 

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Looking beyond the worry and concern that can surround a diagnosis, Chung and her team look at what we've learned through studies, treatments and careful listening.

Autism research takes brains: Cynthia Schumann at TEDxUCDavis

Since officially launching the Brain Endowment for Autism Research Sciences (BEARS) tissue program in February of 2012, Dr. Cyndi Schumann has given outreach lectures to the community, parent organizations, organ procurement organizations, and health care providers across the county on the critical need for brain donation to autism research. Dr. Schumann's multidisciplinary research focus is on characterizing neuroanatomical, cellular, and molecular development of the brain in typical children and those with autism. She has published over 20 articles in the last few years in books and high-impact journals, including the first longitudinal MRI study of brain development in toddlers and children with autism.
